Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was founded by Yataro Iwasaki in Japan in 1884. The company's sole focus was then on building ships and the name was therefore changed shortly to Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Company Ltd. As the company expanded and developed more and more business areas, the company regained its original name (1934). Today, Mitsubishi Heavy is a multinational group that includes a total of 158 different companies. The group is active in engineering and electronic equipment with the development of everything from aircraft components and spacecraft to vehicle parts and air conditioning. For the consumer market, Mitsubishi Heavy offers high-tech air/air heat pumps.
Mitsubishi Heavy is not to be associated with Mitsubishi Electric. Although both manufacturers stem from the same core, the factory in Kobe, Japan was spun off and became an independent company under the name Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in 1921. Since then, both manufacturers have developed products under their own auspices.
