Smart homes

Smart homes are increasingly common and mean that things in the house are now connected, which means that you can turn on lights, turn down the heat or turn on the coffee maker remotely, via an app, or through a schedule that you set. As technology develops, more and more of your home can become "smart" and this means that the owner can control and adjust more products. This is done, for example, via the phone, tablet or computer with downloaded apps. But you can also control with SMS via GSM.

The heat pump becomes smart

When it comes to the heat pump, more and more manufacturers have adopted that the heat pump must now be connected and controlled. However, it differs a lot between the heat pump manufacturers. With new smart functions and connectable heat pumps, the heat pump can control itself or, by setting it, can adapt its heat production so that there is hot water when you need it (usually in the morning before work and when you get home in the afternoon/evening). Producing heat all day then just becomes unnecessary and more expensive for you. When you go on holiday, you can set that there should be minimal heating, but that until you get home again, the heating should be turned on to normal. Because it is not only the economy that gets better with these smart functions, but also the environment as energy is not consumed unnecessarily.NIBE is one of the companies at the forefront of Smart homes and the heat pump. They have developed their own app, myUplink, so you can have control of your heat pump. In the app, you can control the heating, cooling and ventilation and through this get better energy consumption, a better climate and be able to lower your costs. NIBE has also developed something they call Smart price adaptation, which makes the heat pump produce hot water when energy is cheapest. In this way, you can further reduce your heating costs and reduce the load and peaks on the electricity grid. NIBE believes that you can lower your electricity bill by 5-10% by using Smart Price Adaptation.

Safety with smart heat pumps

With the connected heat pumps, you can control the heat pump even when you are not at home. You really don't want to come home to a chilled home without hot water. With the connected heat pump, deviations and errors can be detected in time and the right measures can be taken in time. In some cases, it is also possible to share your login with service companies that can monitor or troubleshoot the heat pump.

The components need to talk to each other

In order to get all the products to talk to each other, you need to connect them in some way. Either you have an app for the smart device or you can use the smart device's API to connect it to others via the internet. Many also choose to connect the smart devices to the same app or solution, such as Google Assistant, Google Home, Alexa or some others similar.

Remotely control existing heat pumps

Some heat pumps can be supplemented afterwards to make them connectable. For example, there are Loggamera, Easyserv, Airpatrol and Huskoll to name a few that can make it possible to connect your heat pump.

Costs vary

The different solutions vary in cost and some have annual fees, monthly fees or one-off costs. Some of the solutions have a free version with limited functionality.
