Fixed or variable price which is best?

When the heat pump needs maintenance service or repairs, it is common to contact a service company. Some repairs and maintenance services can be carried out yourself, such as changing the sensor or checking and cleaning the condensation water hose. But some parts require that the person is trained and has the right tools, for example intervention in the cooling circuit. When it comes to service companies that will help repair the heat pump, there are usually two different types of pricing models, either Fixed price or Variable price. Both have their pros and cons, which depend on many different factors.

Fixed price:

  • Security - You know what you are getting
  • Clear with what is included
  • Often takes height for a little more than it might cost
  • The risk lies with the service company

Variable price:

  • Could be cheaper
  • Not sure what it will cost
  • Unclear what costs what and why
  • The risk lies with the customer

To draw some conclusions, if you as a person do not want any surprises regarding the price, then it is the fixed price that you as a customer should choose, but it can be somewhat more expensive than variable. However, a variable price means that there may be unforeseen costs, for example if the spare part is not included in the service car or if the service technician needs to go and buy some spare parts or tools in order to complete the repair of the heat pump.

For service companies, fixed or variable prices actually mean two completely different business models. With a fixed price, the service company must optimize and improve all processes and runs to reduce time, only then can the company raise the margin against a service company that offers a variable price. Of course, there are also many similarities between these companies and in the end there is usually not much difference between two serious companies that offer variable or fixed prices.
