Just as with other technical equipment, it is good to continuously service your heat pump. It provides longer durability, better performance and increased reliability.
Recurring service
– provides increased performance and safety
Your heat pump is built to last year after year, but just like any other advanced technology, a heat pump may also need to be looked after from time to time. With recurring service, you ensure that your heat pump is checked regularly and that settings are fine-tuned if necessary. It gives your heat pump the best possible conditions for a long service life, the best possible performance and a minimized risk of malfunctions.
Service is always carried out by trained service fitters with the correct tools. During a service, the heat pump's components are checked and measured, after which you as a customer receive a report that your installation is working optimally.
Advantages of recurring service:
Service agreements provide extra security
By signing a service agreement with your dealer, you ensure that the heat pump receives a regular inspection. Each service visit can be seen as an "inspection", where a technician goes through the performance and functions of your heat pump, ensuring that everything is working at its best. Any deviations from normal could be a sign that a component is about to break. Then the technician can replace the component before it stops working and you avoid unwanted downtime.
Regular service makes your heat pump even better
A heat pump service is at least as important as a service of your car. Regular service allows you to lower your heating costs while reducing the risk of downtime. The warm part of the year is ideal for servicing your heat pump. Firstly, you ensure that it is in top condition for the autumn. On the one hand, it is easier to book an appointment with your installer because they are not as busy as during autumn and winter, when they carry out the majority of all heat pump installations.
What is included in a normal service? If you are handy, you can try several of the steps we describe on your own. But regardless, there are still things you should let an authorized agent handle. At the very least, you should book a service visit when your heat pump is three or five years old, respectively - this is a requirement for your ten-year warranty to apply. To keep the heat pump in top condition and maximize both savings and operational reliability, we recommend that you service your heat pump approximately every two years.
1. Cleaning the element circuit. Some manufacturers, including IVT, have for many years had a dirt filter that can be quickly and easily cleaned of dirt from the element circuit. On models with a built-in boiler, the filter is usually outside. On models without a water heater, it is usually built-in. If you want to implement this yourself, here is a brief description of how to go about it:
• Switch off the heat pump.
• Turn the valve handle 90° to block the water.
• Loosen the sealing cap with a large poly grip or wrench with a large grip width.
• Use a pair of pliers to loosen the victory lock.
• Pick out the dirt filter insert.
• Rinse and possibly brush the insert until the entire filter surface is clean.
• Reassemble the filter insert, the victory fuse and the sealing cap (make sure that the O-ring on the sealing cap is in place).
• Turn back the valve handle and start the heat pump. With a cleaned filter, the water circulates properly over the heat pump and the efficiency can be kept high.
2. Check the coolant level. On many geothermal heat pumps, there is a white plastic container that acts as an expansion volume for the water mixture that circulates in the borehole. Check that a water level is visible in the vessel. Shine a strong flashlight from the back of the vessel and gently tap/shake it to make it easier to see. If the level is low, it may be time to top up. That is most easily decided by a service company.
3. Air the elements. Air the elements regularly, at least once before each heating season and preferably some extra control during the rest of the year.
• Get a breather key if you don't already have one.
• Switch off the heat pump.
• Carefully open the ventilation valve at the top of the element.
• Aerate until water comes out and close the valve. Check the pressure in the heating system and top up to the correct pressure during and after venting all elements.
When should you seek the help of a professional on heat pumps?
There are certain parts related to the maintenance of your heat pump that should definitely be carried out by an authorized representative. This applies, among other things, to reading operating data, checking refrigerant leaks, adjusting circulation pumps, checking and adjusting the shift valve and replacing worn parts. As we mentioned earlier, it is a smart move to order service well in advance of autumn. Then the installers are not as busy and you have a heat pump in top condition for the cold season.
What happens if my heat pump breaks?
If something happens to your heat pump, the heat pump display should always leave an error message. There you usually find an error code and can see if it is something you can fix yourself, such as changing filters, air/air pumps and exhaust air heat pumps, or if it is something more serious. You should always contact your service partner or installer if they provide service on heat pumps. A heat pump affects your home both in terms of heating and hot water, which means that you often want quick help so that everyday life can continue. If the person who sold you the heat pump can't help you with troubleshooting or service for some reason, we recommend that you look at the brand you purchased from the service partners on their website. All brands have a list of their authorized service partners where you can see who can help you in your region.
What is included in a maintenance service?
What the service technician performs for various measures and checks on your heat pump depends on which company you hire and which type of heat pump service applies. It is perfectly fine to ask the company beforehand what they will do. What may be included in the service:
